It is important to make a connection between the naturopathic modalities and our six principles of naturopathic medicine, which are holistic in approach. These principles are derived from the belief that life is viewed as more than just the sum of biochemical processes as the body is believed to have an innate intelligence that is always striving for health. The first principle I want to unravel is Do no harm.
Do no harm
Fundamental to the practice of naturopathic medicine is a profound belief in the ability of the body to heal itself, given the proper opportunity. Naturopathic doctors use the least invasive intervention that will have the desired therapeutic effect. Naturopathic modalities should act synergistically with the body to support the healing process rather than interfere with or work contrary to this process. The principle of Do no Harm recognizes the power of holistic treatment to bring healing to our patients in harmony with the natural process of their own body.
